On Thursday, May 3, 2018 the Afro Antillean Museum reopened after six months of internal and external remodeling initiating the celebration of the Month of the Black ethnicity and commemorating the upcoming International Museum Day (May 18).
On October 1, 2017, the Museum Coordination Department of the National Institute of Culture (INAC) initiated a maintenance project on the structure of the West Indian Museum of Panama. To facilitate this project, the office of Museum Coordination of the INAC officially closed the Museum from September 15, 2017. SAMAAP is collaborating in assuming the cost of storage for the Museum collection. The maintenance project included changing a great percentage of the flooring and sheets of zinc from the roof, repairing windows, the main entrance of the Museum, and various parts of the walls that were deteriorated. The contractor culminated the project at the end of December 2017.
